DRUG USE TRENDS

February 1993

Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) statistics for the second quarter of 1992 showed a 14 percent drop in cocaine emergencies compared to the second quarter of 1991, but offered no clear trend since there was a 12 percent rise in the first quarter of 1992 compared to the fourth quarter of 1991 (No byline, "Cocaine Emergencies Drop in Second Quarter of 1992," Drug Enforcement Report, 1/25/93, p. 8). From 1990 to 1991, however, cocaine emergencies rose from 80,355 to 102,727, a 28 percent increase.
