BOOK REVIEW

February 1993

A new book by Professor Theodore Vallance of Pennsylvania State University examines aspects of the current U.S. drug war, analyzing economic and social costs and alternative strategies. The book, Prohibition's Second Failure: The Quest for a Rational and Humane Drug Policy, will be published in July by Praeger and will cost $46.

In addition to a discussion of current approaches and other policy options, Vallance provides information on reform-oriented organizations, and studies by special committees, councils, and commissions. Vallance is a former planning director for the National Institute of Mental Health and has edited prior books on mental health services and ethics.
